Jun 20, 2014

At least 10 protesters killed in today’s renewed clashes. This morning the peaceful protesters marched towards the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) in order to support the necessary decisions for Ukraine.

However, the Party of Regions, including Parliament’s Speaker Volodymyr Rybak refused to consider the bill on return of Ukraine to the Constitution of 2004, limiting the power of president.

During the interview at the Hromadske TV, the representative of the president to the Verkhovna Rada assured people, that there is no necessity to disperse the Maydan.

At around 7 p.m. the anti-riot police “Berkut” together with the Interior Troops started to disperse the Maydan, however one APC was burned down as well as one vehicle with the water cannon. These actions stopped the crack down for a while.

Later, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (Ukrainian Government) announced that the traffic on all entrance roads to Kyiv will be restricted starting from 12 a.m., February 19, 2014. This means that the state of emergency is de facto applied in Kyiv.

During the day the Kyiv metropolitan was closed. The street lighting in central Kyiv is off.
